Capital Campaign

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Founded in Faith~Forging the Future?

This theme was chosen for our capital campaign to reflect our vibrant history and our vision for the future. As the faithful who founded St. Paul’s met the challenges of their time, we must continue that legacy to enlarge our ministries, to meet the needs of our changing world, and to recognize that God has commanded us to go and make disciples.

Is $2 million a realistic goal?

Yes, this is a realistic goal. Through detailed interviews, forums and research, the professionals at Kairos believe $2 million is attainable giving over three years. We give because God first gave. God’s love and sacrificial giving are contagious. We invite all to take time to prayerfully consider what you will commit to as a faith-filled steward. The opportunity and challenge to impact our community for Christ is such an awesome privilege and responsibility – how can we not move forward?

Why do we need to tear down an existing building?

Due to our expanding ministries, we have outgrown our current administration building. The Facilities Assessment Team, through our architect, determined that adding a second floor to the current structure would not be feasible.

What is a gathering space and why is it important?

A gathering space would provide an area which would foster a spirit of community and fellowship. Current research and experience maintains that thriving churches in today’s culture utilize this type of space. Centrally located and within close proximity to the Sanctuary, this space would allow for multiple uses including: receptions, registration for events, fellowship before and after services, access to information regarding life at St. Paul’s, and a place to welcome visitors.

How will the multipurpose auditorium be used?

It will be used for everything that requires more flexibility than our Sanctuary can provide. Such events could include dramas, concerts, recitals, Wednesday evening worship, seminars and workshops, youth activities, and community functions.

Why do we need expanded music department space?

As music is such a vital part of worship at St. Paul’s, this ministry deserves a defined space designed for its unique purpose. Presently, our music department uses various spaces that are not suitable for practice and the safe storage of music. Our choirs practice in the Parlor; the Director of Music is housed under the Sanctuary; the Choirmaster has a desk in the Archives Room; the Music Associate has no space; and music is stored under the Sanctuary and in the kitchenette in the Administration Building.

Do we really need additional office space?

Yes. Our current office space is inadequate. Our Treasurer, Financial Secretary, Choirmaster and Archivist are presently sharing a very small and cramped space making confidentiality and productivity a challenge, as well as not having proper storage for our important historical documents. We need additional offices just to meet our present needs.

How will the Memorial Ash Garden be affected?

Based upon feedback received and on the recommendation of our consultant from Kairos, every effort will be made to leave the Memorial Ash Garden in its current location.

What will happen to Phase II of our Kingdom Building Dream?

As Phase I is completed, plans for Phase II will be considered.

How does my gift to this campaign affect my annual giving to St. Paul’s?

The expenses of the annual operating budget are ongoing and basic for our church’s present ministry, so this is a special gift, over and above your regular pledge to the congregation. Your response card will give you the option on how to configure your gift. Some will give one large gift up front, while others will give a designated amount each week for the three-year period.

Will someone call on me to ask for a contribution?

Yes, a team member will contact you to set up an appointment to deliver your pledge card. At that time, you can make your decision about your gift, complete your pledge card, seal it in an envelope and return it to the appeal’s Financial Secretary. On Commitment Sunday, May 11, everyone will have the opportunity to place their commitment on the altar and to dedicate it to the glory of God.

How much should I give?

Reflect on your blessings from a generous God, and give out of joy and gratitude. You may want to ask God for direction; pray and meditate over a period of time; be open to direction of the Holy Spirit; read the information about this campaign and be informed about the possibilities; participate in weekly worship and listen to fellow members as they share why they will be giving generously to our capital campaign. Our Giving Guide shows the gift amounts needed to reach our goal.

May I give something other than cash?

Yes, of course. You are encouraged to consider assets, such as stock or real estate, in addition to, or instead of, a cash pledge. For many people, this is the best (and smartest) way to give. Please refer to Giving Options for a list of items you may donate. If you think you would benefit from more information on this topic, call Dr. Glenn Schoonover (480-980-0781), our Kairos consultant.

How long will this campaign last?

Although the drive for pledges for Founded in Faith~Forging the Future ended on May 11, there will be a three year opportunity for giving.

What if my financial situation changes or I move out of the area before the end of the giving period?

At any time during the giving phase, your commitment may be increased, decreased, extended or cancelled by notifying our Financial Secretary at 910-762-4882. If you should move out of the area, we hope you would become involved in another congregation and offer them your support. We will be honored and grateful if you are willing to fulfill your total commitment, but you are certainly under no obligation to do so if your circumstances make that impossible. Still others will find that their situation changes for the better during the giving period and will choose to increase their gift or make a gift that honors the way God has blessed them. No matter what your circumstances may be, we ask you to support us in your prayers and to remember that we give thanks to God for you.
