Serving Our Community

St. Paul's is very active within our community and helping the needy in our midst.

Monday Community Dinner

Mother Hubbard's CupboardEach Monday, a team of cooks meet in the Keever Hall kitchen to prepare a delicious dinner for about 60-75 needy people in our area. A separate team arrives at dinner time to drive the meal over to Mercy House, a men’s homeless shelter located on Red Cross Street in downtown Wilmington (www.mercyhouse.us). When the men have been fed, the team returns to St. Paul’s and provides dinner to others from our parking lot. If you would like to be involved in this ministry, contact Kevin Clamser.

Thrivent Habitat for Humanity House

We are currently participating in the third Lutheran sponsored Habitat for Humanity house in Wilmington! Seven area Lutheran churches are participating in building a 5 bedroom house at 3812 Prices Lane in The Cottages at Cornerstone – a 32 home NEW community just off Princess Place Drive. Mr. and Mrs. Hernan Rios and their 5 children will work with us and will purchase this house to be their new home when completed in November. The Rios’ are immigrants from Colombia and are just about to become U.S. citizens. Hernan is a maintenance man at another local church and his wife is a hostess at Olive Garden. They are a congenial, hard-working and deserving family and we look forward to working with them on their new home! If you would like to assist with the cookout, provide meals, or just want to drive some nails, please call Dan Huggins at 395-0608 or Dan Dresher at 675-9640.

Interfaith Hospitality Network

Interfaith Hospitality Network is a ministry which provides temporary housing for homeless families. On a rotating basis, 13 area churches provide accommodations and meals for 3 to 5 families for one week, four times a year. During the day, the guests either go to work or school or to Interfaith’s Day Center on Fourth Street. Further information about Interfaith can be found on their website at www.wihn.net.

Mother Hubbard’s Cupboard

Mother Hubbard’s Cupboard provides emergency food rations to needy people in our community. We assist through food drives held at the church and at local grocery stores.
